HARRIER™ Aircraft Detection Lighting System (ADLS)
In response to the Dark Sky initiative, which aims to reduce light pollution, and to customer requirements, DeTect developed the HARRIER Aircraft Detection Lighting System (ADLS). This system automatically activates obstruction lighting for aviation obstacles such as wind turbine structures, high-voltage transmission lines, and communication towers.
HARRIER ADLS continuously monitors the airspace surrounding wind farms, communication towers, transmission lines, and facilities requiring aircraft obstruction lighting with reliable 360-degree radar surveillance, from ground level to above aircraft flight altitudes. When an aircraft is detected at the defined outer boundaries, the system automatically sends a signal to activate the obstruction lighting.
HARRIER is one of the most advanced technologies available and complies with regulatory requirements including the recently published U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Advisory Circular, NAV CANADA requirements, and various EU standards. The FAA Performance Assessment Report states that the HARRIER ADLS system meets the performance requirements specified in Section 14 of FAA AC 70/7460-1M, and the report has been published on the FAA website.
The HARRIER ADLS visual warning system is also compatible with all wind-energy turbines, control and communication networks, and obstruction-lighting systems.
The HARRIER ADLS collision-avoidance system is based on DeTect’s proven HARRIER ASR system, which is used for detecting non-cooperative aircraft as well as UAV detection, avoidance, and mitigation applications. With continuous monitoring and lighting-signal activation capabilities via SCADA or direct interfaces, the system can detect aircraft at distances of up to 18 nautical miles.
