Counter-UAS Detection and Surveillance
DeTect’s HARRIER radar series is used in air and maritime security applications and enables the monitoring of various targets, including aircraft, ultralight aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), helicopters, ships, and boats.
HARRIER provides comprehensive, multifunctional surveillance from ground level up to 20,000 feet AGL. The system supports the simultaneous detection and tracking of air and maritime targets and automatically issues warnings in the event of a perimeter violation.
HARRIER is an ideal and cost-effective solution for force protection, homeland security, and industrial security applications.
HARRIER shares a common platform with DeTect’s MERLIN system, which is specifically designed to detect and track small radar cross-section (RCS) targets in high-clutter environments, and provides high performance for the detection, tracking, and identification of UAVs, particularly small UAVs.

For UAV detection, HARRIER’s DroneWatcher UAV Surveillance Radar (DroneWatcher DSR) configuration detects both cooperative and non-cooperative UAVs. The system provides detection ranges exceeding 2 nautical miles for small-class UAVs, such as Phantom-class aircraft, and automatically classifies and rejects false-positive targets caused by similarly sized non-UAV objects.
Applications
DroneWatcher DSR can also be integrated with DeTect’s DroneWatcher RF sensors and combined with third-party video, acoustic, and other systems to provide a comprehensive level of protection and interdiction against UAVs and small UAVs.
DeTect’s DroneWatcher UAV and small-UAV (sUAV) detection and defense solution consists of four core sensor technologies that can operate independently or together to provide comprehensive, multilayered security tailored to each customer’s risk-management and budget objectives.
The HARRIER Drone Surveillance Radar mobile display shows UAV tracks and potential launch and control areas. Systems are available in various configurations incorporating HARRIER Airspace Surveillance Radar (ASR) and Maritime Surveillance Radar (MSR).
With multiple parallel processors, the radar can operate as a multifunctional system providing ASR and MSR functionality through a single radar sensor or sensor network. HARRIER is fully compatible with DroneWatcher technology and can be integrated with it.
All HARRIER systems use state-of-the-art solid-state Doppler radar technology specifically developed by DeTect to detect low-RCS targets in high-noise environments. Systems are available with target-optimized S-band, X-band, and combined S/X-band radar options. Compared with conventional magnetron-based systems, DeTect’s solid-state radar technology provides significantly higher performance, longer service life, and lower maintenance costs.
Integration and Unified Technology
HARRIER security and surveillance radars can be fully controlled and monitored remotely. HARRIER systems can operate as independent security and force-protection radar systems that detect perimeter-security violations by air or water and automatically generate alarms.
The system can be programmed to detect unauthorized entry by targets such as ships, boats, aircraft, ultralight aircraft, and UAVs into predefined site perimeters or restricted areas. It can provide automatic visual and audible alerts to security personnel, send warnings via text message, pager, or mobile phone, and provide direct viewing at remote monitoring stations. HARRIER ASR systems can also be used to fill surveillance-data gaps in areas obstructed by terrain or structures such as wind turbines for maritime and military surveillance radar networks.
HARRIER includes an SDK for integration with third-party sensors. HARRIER radars use high-speed scanning for advanced small-target detection. This feature is optimized for detecting small targets across wide areas, varied terrain, and high-noise environments such as severe sea conditions. Automatic detection and tracking functions include user-defined monitoring and alarm zones.
Systems are available in fixed skid-mounted and mobile configurations. They can be expanded linearly within a network architecture to cover large areas, border crossings, coastlines, and large facilities.
DeTect’s technology combines radar, video, thermal detection, and acoustic deterrence systems on a single user-interface display. All systems can be viewed and controlled remotely in real time. Advanced warning and response features make the system highly customizable.
